Bonus marks if you can name the source of the list in a comment (can't be bothered to screen, so I'll rely on you all not cheating by sneaking a peek)

Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] flickgc's potato poll. For the purposes of question two, 'top' refers to whichever end (or side) of the egg you customarily open.

While we were putting up the new shed a couple of weeks ago, [livejournal.com profile] elseware and I had a debate about the ethics of film/play/book spoilers, and what one should take to be common cultural knowledge. We didn't come to any sort of agreement, so I've decided that the best option is to Ask LJ with a poll. The poll below is under a cut because it contains spoilers for the following films, plays and books:

  • Hamlet
  • Citizen Kane
  • Casablanca
  • The Third Man
  • Psycho
  • Waiting for Godot
  • The Empire Strikes Back
  • The Wasp Factory
  • The Crying Game
  • The Usual Suspects
  • The Sixth Sense
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

If you haven't seen/read any of these, and don't want me to give away the ending, do not look behind the lj cut. You have been warned!

Spoilers ahoy! )

As reported by the BBC: A cloud of pollen has coated cars and homes across a huge stretch of the east of England in a film of yellow dust.

64.25 metres of shelving to be precise. Now all we need to do is move around some of the existing shelves to fit all of our oversized books (mainly [livejournal.com profile] ias's photography books and my gaming stuff) and unpack the remaining boxes. But before that, a poll!

We've had the Gin poll, so now the soft poll:

Thanks to all those who filled out the previous poll to say whether or not they'd be coming to our party this weekend (details are in the same place as before). I've put up a final poll without the pesky "Not sure" answers so that we'll have a better idea of who we can expect:

It's the summer again, so we're making the best use of our garden (which is responding well to [livejournal.com profile] ias's tender ministrations) by holding a barbeque during the afternoon of 31st July, followed by cocktails in the evening.

From noon onwards on Saturday 31st July 2004 for the bbq, cocktails from whenever we feel up to it (probably 7pm-ish). People turning up early will be assigned menial tasks, since we'll no doubt be running late and frantically trying to get everything ready in time.

Cotswold House, University of Bath campus. Plentiful car parking, regular buses to and from the train station. There are directions to the house on our website.

What to bring

Meat animal or vegetable for the bbq plus enough bread for you (but not to feed an army!). We will be doing salads etc but if you feel inspired to make salads, cocktail nibbles, cakes etc, please consult with our head chef (a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] ias) so we don't end up with 25 tomato salads and no lettuce.

We are planning to get beer from one of the local breweries (most likely Bath Ales), so if you'd like in on this for a small contribution towards the cost, let us know.

We still have a surfeit of gin, so the standing rules remain: if anyone dares to bring a bottle of gin, they will be forced to do all the washing up while hanging upside down!

We have crash space for at least a dozen in the house (probably more) and if you have a tent and don't mind camping out, we have plenty of space for that as well. Again, there is further information about other accommodation options on our website.

Unashamedly stolen from/inspired by [livejournal.com profile] sneerpout's poll on encores.
