Feeling a bit delicate this morning.

Escaped the workshop crowd again last night (ha ha!) and met up with [livejournal.com profile] zotz for an excellent curry at Khushi's, and thence to the Brass Monkey for many fine pints of 80/-. I've missed Scots beer, although I'm regretting the fourth pint (and possibly also the third) this morning.

[livejournal.com profile] grahamb and [livejournal.com profile] xanta joined us in the pub around nine. To my eternal shame, I completely failed to recognise [livejournal.com profile] xanta. In my defence, this was a radically different context to that in which I'd met her before, there being no film societies within spitting distance, and I'd never considered that she might know any of the other Edinburgh folks that I know. The hair wraps and undercut were also a change from the last time I'd seen her. Phoned [livejournal.com profile] ias on the way back to the hotel for the inevitable "you'll never guess who I've just met" conversation - her response was to point out that I knew very well that [livejournal.com profile] xanta was displaying goth-ish tendencies the last time we'd seen her, and so it should have been no surprise that other Edinburgh-resident goth types might know her. Well, yes, now you put it that way...

To quote Bugs Bunny: "Whatta maroon. Whattan ultra-maroon". I'm sure that I shall learn to live with my shame.

Still, dead good to see all three of them, especially since it's been so long. By my reckoning, I'd not seen any of them since well before 2000 ([livejournal.com profile] xanta at an SNVS in London, [livejournal.com profile] grahamb at the last great CPH Meet in Cambridge in September 1996, and [livejournal.com profile] zotz at the York pre-Slimelight in October 1997).

Of course, opinions on these dates differ, and [livejournal.com profile] zotz maintains that we've met since, at party at Mulberry Close in Cambridge (the goth house, not the bofh house). This sounds vaguely plausible except for the fact that I have no recollection of the party, nor of ever going to that house. I always realised that as I aged, my memory wouldn't be quite as keen as it was when I was in my early twenties, but I never envisaged that the inevitable decline would be this swift, or this soon.

i think i recall you at a party there. velvet-waistcoat era ;)

may have been a brief visit though, or may even not have been you - just an evil doppleganger.

I favour the evil doppleganger theory. I know that I've been in the bofh house on Mulberry Close very, very briefly, since I've got a clear memory of a pile of Sun pizza boxes in the living room.

The main reason I'm certain that I wasn't at a party at the goth house, was that I had completely forgotten that there had been a goth house there, and I'm still not entirely sure who lived there ([livejournal.com profile] zotz, I assume, but the rest are a mystery).

I must now hunt down and kill this doppleganger, but I'm sure that goes without saying.

why not hunt him down, and employ him for the boring bits?

apart from the obvious "being evil" problem

We had a pile of pizza boxes in the livingroom ? Not that I recall...
While I was still there we had the occasional unipack kicking around but no actual sparcs (hadn't managed to wangle any yet).

It was him. I remember it clearly.

And was wearing a v. nice corset top iirc.

Oh, and Glasgwian types as well

But everyone knows [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygoth, so that doesn't really count...

I can't believe you guys know [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygoth too... And [livejournal.com profile] ias is quite right about the corset... Actually I think that was March '98, just before the first time I went to Whitby (Seem to recall that was the SNVS where I got nominated to hand-courier a film to Dublin Film Festival?)
(and I've had the undercut since I was 16 ;)

Yeah, we met Dave at [livejournal.com profile] hsw and [livejournal.com profile] meryc's wedding (well, actually at [livejournal.com profile] meryc's stag, but the distinction is for the nitpickers). He's memorable, to put it mildly. In fact, there's an awful lot of the goth crowd that I know either through [livejournal.com profile] zotz or through Heather and Alex...

re: the undercut, I've come to the conclusion that a) I just don't notice things around me and b) my memory is well and truly shot.
