For those that are looking for an excuse to escape from their families between Christmas and the New Year, we're offering a retreat from family politics.

ias and I are having an open house on Thursday 29th 2005 (our address is in this friends-locked post). Any or all of the following may be involved:

• Eating
• Drinking
• Making merry
• Playing silly board games
• Talking nonsense

(it's also our wedding anniversary, but that's mainly coincidental)

My diary says "Recover from Christmas", and that sounds like a reasonable way to do it, if you're happy to have someone you only vaguely know coming round.

Do you envision this as being an afternoon starting thing, or an evening starting thing?

It's a during the day thing - we'll start making pointed comments along the lines of "have you admired our decorations yet...from outside the house?" when we want to get rid of you. :)
